Foster the People, California’s sensational indie pop artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Newport Music Hall!
Foster the People was formed in Los Angeles in 2009 by Mark Foster (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards, and synthesizers), Mark Pontius (drums, percussion, and backing vocals), and Jacob "Cubbie" Fink (bass guitar and backing vocals). Their musical style is best described as a blend of alternative rock, indie pop (a subgenre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free), indietronica (a subgenre of alternative/indie rock with affinity for electronic music, using samplers, synthesizers, drum machines, and computer programs), alternative dance, and neo psychedelia (a diverse style of music - originating in the 1970s as an outgrowth of the British post punk scene – that borrowed a variety of elements from 1960s psychedelic music and emphasized the cryptic margins of avant-rock, incorporating evanescent textures over an immutable bassline, producing a heavy metallic ambience). Their breakthrough came in 2009 with their debut single (Pumped Up Kicks) hitting #3 on the US Billboard 200 chart. They went on to have a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 8 music videos, 3 extended plays, 10 singles, and a Billboard Music Award (for Rock Song of the Year).
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to indie pop, alternative rock, indietronica, alternative dance, and neo psychedelia!
