Japandroids, Canada’s sensational alternative rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Newport Music Hall!
Japandroids was formed in Vancouver in 2006 and is a duo consisting of Brian King (guitar, vocals) and David Prowse (drums, vocals). Their musical style can be best described as a blend of indie rock, garage rock, post punk, punk rock, noise rock (style of experimental rock - rooted in noise music – that uses the traditional instrumentation and iconography of rock music, but incorporates atonality and especially dissonance, and frequently discards typical songwriting conventions), and heartland rock (a subgenre of rock music - exemplified by the commercial success of singer-songwriters Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, and John Mellencamp – that’s characterized by a straightforward musical style, a concern with the average, blue-collar American life, and a conviction that rock music has a social or communal purpose beyond just entertainment). They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums, 1 compilation album, 2 extended plays, and 8 singles. Their second album (Celebration Rock) was critically acclaimed and was short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize as well as nominated for the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. They’ve performed at many renowned events such including Pitchfork Music Festival, Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo, Osheaga Festival, Roskilde Festival, Coachella, Fuji Rock Festival, and Primavera Sound.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to alternative rock music!
