Lake Street Dive, Massachusetts’ sensational eclectic artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Newport Music Hall!
Lake Street Dive was formed in Boston in 2004 by Rachael Price (lead vocals, ukulele, and guitar), Mike Olson (trumpet, guitar, organ, electric piano, synthesizer, and vocals), Bridget Kearney (standup bass, electric bass, piano, and vocals), and Mike Calabrese (drums, organ, and vocals). All of them were musicians or singers from a young age and were influenced by a variety of genres (ranging from classic jazz to '60s soul to rock and roll) through their parents’ musical tastes. This band cites classic pop music and swing era jazz as their dominant influences and Mike said in an interview, “We want to sound like the Beatles and Motown had a party together.” Their musical style has evolved over the years and it can be best described as a blend of Southern rock, indie pop, blue eyed soul, jazz, folk rock, and Motown. They’ve had a stellar career with 7 studio albums, the latest of which (Side Pony) topped 3 Billboard music charts; Top Alternative Albums, Folk Albums, and Top Rock Albums. It also hit #29 on the US Billboard 200 chart and they’ve appeared on many TV shows such as The Colbert Report, The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to Southern rock, indie pop, blue eyed soul, jazz, folk rock, and Motown!
