Social Distortion, California’s sensational punk rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Newport Music Hall!
Social Distortion was formed in Fullerton in 1978 by vocalist and guitarist Mike Ness. The band’s line up has been a virtual revolving door of talent with many members coming and going (with Mike as the only constant member). The line up currently consists of Mike (lead vocals and lead guitar), Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Brent Harding (bass and backing vocals), David Hidalgo, Jr. (drums and percussion), and David Kalish (keyboards and Hammond organ). While their musical style can be broadly classified under punk rock (a rock music genre - developed in the early to mid-1970s in the United States – that typically uses short or fast paced songs, with hard edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti establishment lyrics), it also includes elements of country rock, hardcore punk, alternative rock, cowpunk (a subgenre of punk rock that combines it with country music, folk music, and blues), and rockabilly. They’ve had a stellar career with 7 studio albums, 1 live album, 2 compilation albums, 2 video albums, 8 music videos, 1 extended play, 24 singles, and they’ve sold more than 3 million records worldwide.
Don’t miss your chance to see the punk outfit that’s come under the increasing influence of American roots music since forming in the late 1970s!
